VariTrans® A 20000
One for all
The VariTrans® A 20000 P0 is the ideal solution when the standards governing the erection of installations demand Safe Isolation and you want to make optimal use of the tightly dimensioned installation space on the DIN rail. A universal product which covers all common signal combinations makes procurement logistics and stockkeeping as lean as the product itself. The A 20000 P0 isolates, transmits, and converts 0 ... 20 / 4 ... 20 mA and 0 ... 10 V standard signals with calibrated range selection.
Ideal for high demands
In spite of the just 6 mm narrow modular housing, the new VariTrans® A 20000 P0 meets the high demands on accuracy and provides maximum protection of personnel and equipment by Safe Isolation up to an operating voltage of 300 V conforming to EN 61140. Test voltage is 2.5 kV AC. Very small leakage capacitances also ensure that high transient common-mode interferences can be reliably isolated and do not lead to system malfunctions. Standardization and flexible signal conversion are optimally implemented by the calibrated range selection – on-site calibration becomes superfluous.
Compact packing
The just 6 mm-wide modular housing and a very low self-heating allow high component density in the enclosure. Power can be supplied through bus connectors which are inserted in the DIN rail to reduce wiring effort. The isolation amplifiers are simply snapped onto the prepared rail and are immediately connected to the central 24 V power supply.
Universal usability
3-port isolation allows universal usability. The input and output circuits can be applied to any potentials, taking account of the permitted working voltages. The distinction between input and output isolation amplifier is not required with the VariTrans® A 20000 P0 because all 3 electric circuits are galvanically isolated from each other.
Perfect reliability
Knick has achieved a significant increase in reliability and service life through the development of isolation amplifiers with extremely low power consumption and low self-heating. As the design of the electrical isolation also takes the requirements of EN 61131-2 into account, the VariTrans® A 20000 P0 is ideal for DCS applications. Isolation amplifiers are mainly used for DC current signals, but the correct transmission of fast signal changes cannot be dispensed with. Excellent large- signal characteristics guarantee a correct run into the overrange limit. Dead times, hysteresis, signal reversal, or latch-up effects are prevented – an indispensable feature for further processing in the DCS.
The Knick 6 mm housings have been standardized to ensure optimal and easy operation of the modules in conjunction with other devices. The VariTrans® A 20000 P0 now come in a standardized 8-pin housing although 3-port standard signal isolators only require 6 terminal pins.
Fast and safe
In this way, power can be supplied to all associated devices through bus connectors which are simply inserted in the DIN rail. Snap-on and start – it couldn't be easier! Of course, there are still screw terminals to allow conventional power supply.

The permissible voltage range has been significantly increased to 24 V DC ±25 % ensuring reliable functioning in even broader applications.
Calibrated range selection and outstanding durability
As a matter of course, all new 6 mm isolation amplifers provide calibrated range selection without complicated adjustments and are covered by a 5-year warranty like all Knick modules. The failure rate of the devices is almost negligibly small: the mean time between failures (MTBF) for Knick devices usually lies in the range of several hundred years. This reliability brings enormous benefits to our customers, as system control errors due to a failing isolation module can cause costs which are considerably higher than the complete investment in isolation technology.
Good bargain
The new 6 mm isolation amplifiers with all their advantages are offered at the price of their predecessors – a little sensation in times of permanent price increase.
Control is better
Reliability is ensured for all Knick 6 mm standard signal isolation amplifiers by a smart circuit design – and by the 100 % test which is performed on all Knick isolation modules at the end of the production process. This is not a given in today's industry but has been and is common practice at Knick for decades.
